    The story thus far:

This large wall clock is purported to be from Vienna, ca. 1865. Stylistically, the case is a mix of Rococo Revival and Renaissance Revival. It is executed in walnut and is, as the old auctioneers used to say, "carved to death." The level of skill is remarkable. The movement is not labeled. The tablet area is open, an unusual feature.

I don't have a lot to add, except to say that if any of you can match this to an image search app and come up with more or better information, I'd be grateful.

    Cheers!!

Really nice, would love to see close ups, it's all about the detail. Not you typical Vienna wall clock, far nicer.

Don't take my word for it but it maybe French, the Green man isn't normally Italian and the dial looks French as well. Give me "carved to death" any day, it's a real stunner of a clock. I don't think black forest and the carving looks French to my eye but very happy to be found wrong. I'm sure people the other side of the channel will know better. These days I go by the carved beadings/mouldings rater than the figures but TBH there are elements of both French and Italian. Sorry I couldn't be a better help.

A real quality piece. I don't know about the timepiece, but the carving looks Italian to me.
The type of wood could also be an indication of the origin.
Not your classic Viennese Regulator, but they certainly loved the Renaissance Revival style.

Maybe you could ask the Vienna Clock Museum. This is an English page on a general Viennese museum site:

Contact info, ask for a reply from the "Uhrenmuseum" (Clock Museum):

Note the astrological signs inside the chapter ring, and the rosette next to the center post.

The Wien Museum's initial (automated) response. Thanks AJ. At least we know that they ARE responsive! I hope to have their opinion shortly, and will keep you posted as to what they say.

Good!:) Austria probably observes Ascension Day, which is today (we do too). So the next workday is tomorrow, which is when they'll start to process mails.
