Japanese bronze vases or imitation?

    I found a pair of thesthese in the shop earlier. I didnt buy them as I'm not sure if they are bronze. Part of me is thinking that they are brass with some kind of coating on them to make them look bronze. What do ya reckon?

    These are usually a bronze-like alloy. Meiji period, so genuine.
    Looks like the base rim is yellowish, so bronze with a copper-like finish.

    Asian bronzes are not exactly the same as Western bronze, and Japan is known for experimenting with metals and creating special alloys and finishes.

    Thank you. The price is £50 for the pair and its oxfam which makes me think its too good to be true, as they usually charge over the odds and then some. What to do....

    They are well made and the good thing is that they are a pair. But I have no idea if there is a market for these at the moment.

    Yeah. I was initially looking on the broader internet and was seeing some astronomical prices. Looking at ebay and easy live auction, they are probably priced about right.
