Here's somethin' cute I picked up today...

Victorian-era (evidenced by the maker's name on the tap) brass hot-water or hot beverage urn/boiler...thingy.

It's an interesting piece. I reckon it probably had a base or something that went underneath it, and was originally fed by charcoal...or not. I have no idea. Either way, you could fill this up, stick tealight candles underneath it and heat up a drink for yourself.

I cleaned the spout in about six different ways, so it's about as clean now as it's ever gonna be. I like it :) Gonna try and sell it perhaps.

I don't think it's been replaced, I reckon more likely that the solder was reapplied to strengthen it or stop leaks. I've checked it, the spigot is a real Victorian piece, and the interior and base of the urn look to have real age to them. It wasn't knocked up last week in a shed, of that I'm sure.

Well, that's good. I don't think even this board could handle a pregnant urn!

Q: "Where would one find a pregnant urn?"

    A: "In a mat-urn-ity ward, of course!"

I follow a Facebook page called RPPC and another called the Golden Glow of Christmas Past. One of them - I think the GG one - had a postcard of a couple sitting in a late 1940s early 1950s living room with a fake tree. On the floor near the tree was a gizmo that we all tried to ID. It looked like an electric heater and the top looked much like this.
