Featured Hoping to find these earrings for myself - What are they called?

I never see these in jewelry stores, estate or otherwise. Shown on Ida Lupino and Ava Gardner.

What I'd call a classic "gypsy" - if I can use that term - but there are so many more dangly chandeliery earrings out there they just get buried in the google machine.

I always think I'll find them when my ship comes in...

Ida Lupino and Ava Gardner were in their "heyday" in the 1940s - early 50s, so they may have worn screw back style earrings rather than clip-on.

I remember my mom wearing these during the 1950s and 1960s, even later,

Thanks, Debora - They are easy to find in Bakelite...

But the meaning for gold or silver hoops runs the gamut these days. I've been looking for a while.

This is the shape I'm looking for, hopefully with wires and maybe a little smaller:

I'm hoping to find vintage or antique with wires, posts being second choice.

I self pierced my ears in the late 60s with those tension hoops (ouch)
but the holes are turned out like a ballet dancer's feet. Some styles just look weird, but dangles are fine :)

Thanks for example. Definitely a gypsy shape.

I recently came across a pair in sterling, albeit a different shape.

You are in good company, here is Marylin wearing similar ones in "Niagara". I have a pair, DH bought them for me because I loved them also :)

Actually, they're called flamenco earrings. And typically plastic. Let's see what we can find you...

Here's a New York-based retail that sells flamenco earrings. (You can find them under "Compliments," a mis-translation of "Complementos" for "Accessories.") Doubt you'll find what you're looking for but worthwhile just for these below that are designed for baby girls (who have their ears pierced at birth in Spain.)

I think the pair on Ida Lupino are about perfect in size and seem to have the thick to thin feature.

How fun! I'm gifting myself bc a little ship is coming in, but it ain't here yet.

Those are neat, @Barn Owl :)

I think vintage clip-on dangle hoop earrings is a better descriptor. And it is interesting that, after being so popular in the post-World War II years, they're so hard to find now.

From etsy.com. (12k gold filled.) Close but no cigar?

I would totally wear this white pair (only $21!)

But because I'm gifting myself after a long period of living "within my means," I'm on the prowl for vintage or antique GOLD! :woot::woot::woot:

I agree, but it seems so. I've been looking in pawnshops, etc. for a long time and haven't run across any.

They're a very traditional antique style, that don't seem to have been reproduced in any big way.

Well Scouts, now that you've put THAT thought out to the universe, let's see how long it takes to come back to you as the gold pair of gypsy dangle hoop gold earrings you want to purchase! ;)

Really lovely photo of Marilyn there, Marie, thanks!
