Featured C M Varey hand decorated plates

I picked these two up today. Pair of 'amateur' decorated plates. The quality is really pretty good, although I can't find anything relating to them, other than a few red herrings on google AI.

Given the subjects, they are likely British and maybe Scottish.

The robin's surroundings would seem to be the artist's fancy, but lots of robin sitting on a branch plates & plaques out there.

 

Ah so they've borrowed the art work.

 

Somone was still painting china 40 years ago. Did it well, too.

 

They're lovely and I think other people would give them some value.

 

Why not try contacting Maurice Pledger to see if he knows who C M Varey is?

 

It never occured to me. Theres always a chance he might have some info. Thanks.

 

I clicked on Maurice's web site just to see his work and then went down the rabbit hole of Douggie Pledger. Recommend looking at his son's work, it's inspired and very creative.

 

So macabre! :O

 

Not all of it is, but it is all so clever. And so different from his father's work.
