Hello, I’m wondering if anyone can help me identify the approximate time period that this Southwestern necklace was made. It has magnesite and sterling silver beads, and a sterling silver cross pendant with the word “TERLIN” stamped on the back, which I assume is an incomplete “STERLING” stamp. The necklace is 27” in length and weighs a total of 95.8g.

I’m particularly curious about this piece because the pendant is practically identical to a cross pendant that Chrome Hearts produces. I’m not sure when Chrome Hearts first produced the pendant, but it would be interesting if the necklace happens to pre-date the founding of the brand in 1988.

    I'm having a problem thinking that's a southwest item.
I can't say for certain , it isn't , but there are a number of things I'm not used to seeing.

I'm not seeing Chrome Hearts either...

Beautiful necklace, but I'm with komo, it doesn't strike me as a Southwestern necklace.
The turquoise looks like Hubei turquoise to me, from China. Hubei turquoise is used in many countries and has been exported to the US in recent years.

I don’t have the necklace to test and confirm, but it’s advertised as (dyed blue) magnesite, not turquoise

I agree that the pendant isn’t trying to pass itself off as genuine Chrome Hearts. I guess I’m wondering about the date it was made to see if it was came after Chrome Hearts and is based on that design or if it pre-dates Chrome Hearts.

The necklace appears to be a recent Asian import. The Chrome Hearts cross was created in 1987 and trademarked by the brand in 2009. I suspect the necklace's cross is a loose interpretation (aka knock-off.)

I have zero knowledge of jewelry. Can you point me to the characteristics of the necklace that suggest this?

That makes sense, it looked different. That means the beads are still likely Chinese.

The dyed beads alone are an indication that it doesn't have great age.

I'm guessing 10-15 years old. The brown veining marks the beads as magnesite, and the shape marks them as Chinese. It's a perfectly nice necklace if you just want to wear it. These days the sterling might be just silvertone, prices being what they are.

What’s the story with Chrome Hearts since the topic has come up? I know their stuff brings great $$$. Why? How did that name rise to the top? Just good design? I know nothing about the brand at all.

To me Chrome Heart is a Neal Young song. Maybe someone else thought the phrase made a good name for a jewelry company.

"Long may your run, long may you run, although these changes have come. With your chrome heart shining in the sun, long may you run." Or close enough. Looked it up - Long May You Run. I never knew the title.
