Found this at my local thrift store - I lived the 70's psychedelic look, but can't make out the signature
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you!

AI image search results - started with signature, then pic if art when asked- it's responses seem human!

PS - if order is mixed up, I apologize - looking at the small images on my phone isn't as easy as it used to be (I guess I'm no spring chicken anymore)!

Also, it may not be a big deal & I'm showing my age - but AI seems so smart & realistic it's scary!
I'm thinking of the Terminator & the AI taking over!

I read JC Vindela. It would be very unusual if artists who sold through/worked for the Viota Galería de Arte wouldn't use their own signature.

It's unusual for an artist to sign a piece with the full date. Perhaps it's a caricature. What's the medium?

The AI, using the royal "we", reads to me like the essay of a seventh grader who was just trying to fill the page with obvious & repetitive stuff: this is a label; this is a gallery label; this is a frame; galleries put labels on frames; this label says Viota; it is from the Viota gallery... It then goes off in what has been called hallucination, although I think confabulation would be a better word, seemingly detecting that the signature starts with V, ends with a vowel, so therefore is also Viota. Do we really know that there were Viota family artists from a Puerto Rican artistic family?

The Viota Gallery wasn't established until 1987 so perhaps the piece was only framed there. (Enmarcados = Frames) I don't think that's Puerto Rican. I'd look to Spain. Something about the hand... The only Spanish language surname I can find that starts with "V" and has a "d" is Vidales. And "J C" only ever abbreviates two things in Spanish: Jesuscristo (Jesus Cristo) and Juan Carlos. I suspect the latter in this case.

I used to have two Spanish friends called José Carlos, also a possibility. There could be other possible combinations as well.

Did think it was a type of paper. That looks right to my eye.
