Featured Very old nude figurine with Veritas inscription.

    The mark is very primitive I think its Ludwigsburg from 18th cent. but I cant be sure. Any idea which goddess or person this represents? And the mark?

    It says on her book 'Veritas', so I assume she is Veritas, the Roman Goddess of truth.:D

    "Continental porcelain female figure. A Continental, probably German, porcelain allegorical figure of Truth (“Veritas”) with polychrome enamel and gilt decoration. Late 19th to early 20th century. Marked to underside with underglaze blue factory mark and impressed numerals. 6 1/2". Provenance: From the Estates of Raymond Bahor & Michael Mahoney. Mahoney was a professor and Chair of the Fine Arts department at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, until he retired in 1991. Prior to that he was a curator and editor at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. ..."

    Yes I saw that. I think they are both by same maker. The one you posted has a different mark. The one I posted seems more primitive but both marks are said to be from same time period. Thoughts?

    Without the book she would conform to traditional depictions of Aphrodite/Venus, which brought Keats to mind:
