@KSW - Now, now - Pounds is for common purchases. This is an antiquity, and as such, deserves proper treatment.

There now - much better, eh?

I ran my hand through a machine at work. Tore my palm off. My wedding band was smashed flat. Ring finger turning deep purple. I told Carter to grab a pliers from my toolbox so I could get the ring round again. The local police on the scene wouldn't let him hand me the pliers. In the emergency room they tried grabbing it with forceps to spread it. It snapped off them many times. Didn't feel too good. They finally managed to cut it with some tiny surgical cutter not fit for trimming fingernails. Then snapped it many more times trying to spread it. The pain of the blood pressure in that finger was worse than any of the other pain. All that purple blood dried in there and stayed for months. The ring was $40 worth of scrap.

They didn't use one of these? https://www.buyemp.com/product/ring-cutter
Every emergency room and clinic always had one on hand.

I've had early 20th C and older silver rings with gap bands. And seen very ancient ones, gold, with gaps. As others have said, doesn't mean new, doesn't mean cheap.
