Bronze Koi Fish Stand. What is this?

Does anyone know what this was used for? It is about 5.5" tall and has 4 openings at tge top that align with 4 indents on the base. Im thinking pipe stand? But have never seen this before...

PS-I drop a grand on that table so fast I'd fracture my elbow,doesn't match a single thing in our pad... course it could be worth 10 X that much ?

Seconded. Water from toothbrushes and bathroom humidity would destroy untreated brass. That said, I'd use it for dry paintbrushes.

 

Easy to prove/disprove. Will the hollows in base accomodate a pipe bowl?

no self respecting pipe smoker would subject his collection to damage from that metal..
the hollow where the dolphins is , would be useless, and the rest would be larger to support an array of pipe sizes and shapes !

if he was anything like me , the house was full of 2nd hand smoke !!

 

So were the stores, restaurants, school offices....

Nothing like sitting for hours in a flying tin with 2nd hand smoke to start your business trip, holiday or family visit.

 

And getting off with your hair and travel clothes reeking of...
