Please can anyone enlighten me what language this is or translate?
Rather a nice wedding band but I’d like to know what it says just in case as I would hate to offend anyone.
    Thankyou :)

As KSW and Holly posted while we trying to translate the inscription, it's obviously some form of -- or meant to look like some form of -- runic ("futhark"), but the characters don't match up consistently with any runic alphabet (Anglo-Saxon, Danish, Swedish, Norweigian) with which we're familiar.
    We're getting something like
    U H H R H - S M (or Z) R k? R r H K 2 U S
-- which might be something else entirely in some form of runic created by Tolkien, or an initialism for some phrase known to only the original wearer, or the result of some simple substitution code lettered in runic, or...

I'm trying to read the marks; it looks like a British sterling mark, but I can't figure out where it came from. The circle is ... odd.

The "K" makes this simple nonsense. The name "Uairis," is certainly uncommon, but this is simply someone trying to go through the proper motions and failing. Not West Saxon, not Frisian, not coherent. Igpay Uthorcfay.

They're Elvish runes: Sindarin to be precise. I've a translate table somewhere if I can find it.

Tolkien - the Anglo-Saxon philologist and translator of Beowulf - with a "K" in his runic alphabet. I'd bet against that.

Hoom, hoom, booraroom, in my best Entish voice.

Try this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirth - the table about half way down ought to do it.

I've a friend who can write full Elvish in both scripts.

British hallmark, Sheffield assay office, 1988 by the look of it.

K equates to r in Sindarin.

Thanks OBB, still missing some of the symbols but on the right track. Somehow don't think I'm going to be able to translate this. Hopefully it's just some harmless LOTR quote.
I had no idea there were so many alphabets!.

@KSW - try the big revised table, I think they're all there. My copies of the Silmarillion and the other follow ups are over in my store, or I'd fish them out. The thing about Cirth is that it was used for Sindarin and Quenya, the Elvish tongues and also for assorted variants of dwarfish and Holbytla - hobbit. It can be tricky to translate, as some of the runes can be oriented in different ways. I've geekier friends than I am who can do it, but I've forgotten a lot.

I'm very impressed you know any at all!
I'll see what I can do with it although I can't believe I'm trying to translate Elvish.....
I cleaned up the hallmark and the maker is DSW which I think is David Scott-Walker. Date letter is b for 2001 Sheffield.

Oh, I'm a serious Tolkien geek, as well as being an SF/fantasy nut.

2001 actually makes more sense - I did wonder. It's when Fellowship of the Ring came out. I posted a bit of LOTR jewellery on the Finds thread a few days back, dead pleased to find it cheap.

This is a lovely ring. It's only silver but is heavy and beautifully made. Very tactile. My OH even tried it on. He has NEVER worn a ring! Too small for him though.
