    I can't seem to do a search to retrieve a discussion about this type of ceramic that I thought I'd identified as Kenzo with Lohans, c 1920... This was not the topic, just came up and was helpful...;;

Help! It keeps dumping me back in to "Antiques" board, FSR.

Yesssss - probably cz I was looking for Kenzo, not Kenzan - but Lohan didn't work either. THANKS GG

and for that, I'll give you a bird, a Santino:

I think you have to hold these in your hand - other pieces of Sabino I've handled have a very soft, tactile feel to them, like Lalique.

Sorry, I meant Sabino originally and got it right second time! I just talked to my friend Sabino last night.

    Birds are HOT!

I was saving this one to kill you with later, but what the hell - you already know where to find them:

    Avian anecdotes:

When we were growing up, my parents had an enormous, and educational, calendar. Each month had dogs, cats, birds, wild animals, etc., etc. Since we lived in the country, I expected to see the birds in all directions. Many did appear, but some remain still on the page. Orioles eventually showed up, snowbirds, cardinals, barn swallows (elegant!), and one day an absolute Flock of scarlet tanagers! Ditto with red wing blackbirds - flocks only. Humming birds aplenty, as my mother had a butterfly bush. And at the other end of the spectrum, PA has this perfectly homely critter known colloquially as a turkey buzzard. Seen in groups in the dusk beside the road...one tends to roll up the car windows, elsewise one does not feel safe somehow.

I have never yet seen a bluebird :(, but one day my father and I both hit the ground, as a giant shadow suddenly covered most of our front lawn. Our UFO turned out to be a bald eagle, about 12 feet off the ground. EEGAD!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Love those stories!!!
I had the odd habit, as a toddler, of following and hugging my grandparents' ornamental fowl. Since then, it was just all birds... all kinds... and of course you know I have a 30-year-old parrot (long story, but it's my longest successful relationship).
Thanks for the birdage thread, Scoutster!

My friend longed for dogs so much, made do with his mom's canister vacuum till he could get his hands on the real deal. He's a dog trainer.

Huh? What did he do? Pull the vacuum cleaner around by the hose and pretend it was a dog on a leash?

    Did they have any Banties?

We have them in Sonoma, CA, too :)
    WOW!

We have major Peacocks here. They wander around all day, but most especially in the late afternoon. They move up and up on the streets, catching the last of the sun.

We live on a hilly Peninsula above the LA Harbor - depending on wind conditions we also hear seals, reveille and/or taps from Fort MacArthur (2.5 miles away), the Long Beach Gran Prix and the tamale guy.
