Thinking this was made as an antique child's play stepback cupboard and not a salesman sample? I am guessing the date as maybe 1870 to later 1800's? Wanted to get some expert opinions on it though. Brass knobs and hinges on it. Old red brown paint. Interior green, I am guessing was added at a later date as was painted a bit messy. Older grey primer underneath? Saw marks on draw bottoms. Any help will sure be appreciated.

Yes, It's a stepback cupboard but No, I don't think a salesman sample, more likely a home workshop kinda thing. It's modern nailed construction so guesses 20th century.

Utilitarian and charming. If it's 20th century, then it's early.

How cute is that ? To my eye it almost looks like someone cut it down.Any way to get a pic of the bottom ?

I wonder if doors had glass originally?

Yes, it looks to have had glass in the door. No good way to take them apart though to put replacement pieces in that I can see.

I really think it was taller at some point and someone trimmed it down, perhaps to fit a certain place .

@johnnycb09 Do you mean trimmed down from a regular size? At only 12 or 13" wide that would be a major trim of a full size cupboard.

To my eye,the proportions seem off. Like it should be taller. And the way the drawer ends abruptly, with no feet . Just my opinion,it could have very well been made this way.

Hard to say if cab was remodeled over the years with just photos and i do think earlier 20th century, perhaps in 1930s depression when times were hard.
It's cute but hard to say what value would be for something like this, there is no function except as a toy, i have no clue what something like this sells for.
I see some nifty dollhouses/bird cages go for fairly big bucks so, i dunno............
