Featured Bridge Set Numerals? Curved Celluloid/Faux Tortoise

I picked these up years ago, ignorant of their origins. Thought perhaps they were warped by shrinkage of the tortoise layer. Today Google Lens offered an eBay listing for a Bridge Set in a case with Score Pads, etc, including a nearly identical 4 numerals; theirs had a dark background, but were the same 'Deco' font an' size (3" height), an' were similarly 'warped'. I know zip about the game or its accessories, but have hope that one of you folks can illuminate the purpose for these...an' why they are concave. Thanks for lookin'!

I've never seen such a thing. Here's the bridge set on offer on eBay that contains similar numbers: Item #256411623607.

Hmm...yeah, might be, but all other indicators point to their purpose as Bridge table position...or bidding? priority markers, Bosko.

 

I don't believe they are true tortoise, Komo...an' if they were, they'd be convex...unless cut to expose the under or inner side of that shell.

 

Those are the set I mentioned, Debora...which may be Bakelite, but I doubt it.

 

They're to indicate the number of the table at a bridge party. Four players per table, four tables for a total of 16 guests. I'd think they're an early plastic.
