Featured Help ID Big Studio Pottery Vase

Ran into this at the local chazza and just couldn't leave it be. It's free of cracks,dings,fleabites and factory flaws (miraculous for a thrift), it's also 1 foot high-BUT MOSTLY, it was 3 bucks !
I rarely buy Studio Pottery- it's generally competently made, but rarely brilliant stuff. Plus there's the always impossible to read signature- making it impossible to monetize...but 3 buckaroos ?
I'd really appreciate some input on the signature and date, the help'd be great. I think I'm reading it correctly, but the more eyeballs the better-big thanks.

 

I get YOUNGREN...an 2-30-
The pot looks MC to me; grainy clay, speckled glaze.
Bit the 'date' is enigmatic.

PSS- Also enjoyed the terms brocantes or vide-greniers, which I think (may be off) Rachel used ?

 

Lovely bit of studio pottery. D? Youngren/Youngrer? And 2-30 may not be a date. From the clay type, glaze and form, I'm thinking latter 1970s/80s when this type of stoneware was popular.

G Youngren or something like that. For $3 it was hard to miss. The weight would have chased me off. Studio pottery can get very heavy, and that thing would hurt to lift.

Thanks Bronwen, the studio pottery maze is a winding mystifying land. I think I came across a studio pottery database a year or two ago- I do get a kick out of this kind of detective work.

 

Wonder whether a pot that size/weight would have traveled very far from its point of origin. I'm no expert, but strikes me as quite accomplished work, reminds me a bit of a melon.

 

Love the shape and especially love the price !

 

That's a good point- no shortage of potters btw here and Seattle.
*Yep Johnny,some things would be insane to walk away from (blaspheming the Antique Gods so to speak !). Besides this is a fun way to sharpen my very humble research chops.
