I apologize that I do not have a picture of a painting my parents have. It is in storage and they do not know exactly where it is.

I am searching for artist names who painted on mattress ticking and did not sign their work. If anyone has a recommendation I can research to see if the styles are similar.

it is a portrait of a woman and is probably 30 inches or more in height with a very ornate frame. There is no signature. I would guess it was painted at least early 20th century or late 19th. I do not know art well enough to describe the style.

We are in the Dallas, Texas area - in case it was a local artist.

I assume mattress ticking was linen back then but probably of a lower grade. Apart from commercially available pre primed and unprimed linen, I have used aircraft fabric linen which is very light weight. I hope the original poster can put up a photo of the piece.

    Hi,
I remember back in 1977 having mattress ticking made into slip covers for my sofa and Queen Anne chairs. They were tossed into the washing machine and washed every season. I used them in the summer when sweat and tanning polish was an everyday occurance. They lasted for years.

Thank you everyone. I didn’t realize the material was so common. I hope to find the painting soon. They had the house remodeled a few years ago and packed it away. I had photos once before but I cannot find them. I will repost when I do find it.
