When I see something like a mother of pearl or abalone table, even one of those fake ones, I see too much animal protein in the wrong place - ew. It doesn't fit, somehow. Might as well be made out of human fingernails. Maybe that's what you mean, kaspers, no way hair should be in that form.

I did hair for a few years and hated it, not because of hair per se... A few people really did freak me out, but I never refused to work on anyone.

Honey's switch still smells sweet. I loved what Cheryl said about a memento of Honey/Lucille (my middle name, too) from before she was Mrs Smith, Mother and much later, my Grandma.

It also has attached strong memories of an older, much admired sister's coming of age.

Cheryl (Dragonflywink), what a beautiful post. Thank you.

Kaspers, take a quick peak at Ebay using the search words: Victorian- Shadowbox -Hair". I think I concur with Brad's take, when you see the auction results of your piece, you'll be glad you took it. Thanks for posting such an interesting item!

Cheryl, a friend of mine collects dolls and her husband gave her this really life like doll that sat in a chair. Another friend spent the night with her and finally had to put the doll in a closet because it was staring at her and she couldn't sleep.

    She called it "Chuckette"!

The internet doesn't reflect this but we did sell this piece for $150 which was the reserve that was on it. The floor bidder asked what the reserve was when the bidding stalled and then bid the reserve to get it. She was very excited about it and said she had a buyer at $500 for it already. Personally, I am really glad it is gone. She said she would have been willing to go to $400 on it. Sigh. Oh Well.

That sounds mean, and I doubt it. Don't believe everything you hear.

Ah no, she didn't say it to me and I don't think she meant it to sound mean. She was genuinely excited to get it. She bought several other lots and she is a reseller. I don't mind. I made what I wanted on it I hope she makes hers and it's gone, sold, done... that's the main thing. :)

It has often got back to the guy who owns the auction house that I go to on Friday night when I sold something for a lot of money that I got from one of his auctions. There have been some who have said that it was not a good idea, but it wasn't always me who spilled the beans. Since I have been going to this same auction house for almost 15 years I know all the regulars & most people know I sell on-line as well as my seller ID.

I stopped worrying about it when he told me that he loves to hear those type of success stories. Because if you sold something for a lot of money that meant chances were very high that you would be back time & time again. :p

Exactly! I would say I felt very much the same way. I was glad she was happy. The seller was happy. Heck we are just one giant love fest. LOL!

In all seriousness. I know my regular bidders are re-sellers. They are awesome people and I like knowing they are there because I know they will be bidding on several lots and will be buying as much as they can. Guess what. Some of those regulars are even going to be bringing back the very same items at some point and I will sell them again. Kid you not. I talked to a couple of my regulars this week that have accumulated a couple of storage rooms full of stuff they want to consign, no reserves, just sell it. Some of it is things I have sold them at other auctions. LOL!

This is really good for me. It isn't like she stole it from me. LOL! I mean we had a price our seller was willing to take and she was willing to pay it. Works for me. Would I like to see some of these higher priced items move? Of course, I would. Would I like to see more bids and higher prices? Well sure but I won't get there without having people get some really great deals and then telling all their friends about the really great deals. I'm counting on it. :)

I would think that most auctioneers would agree that they like having re-sellers at their auctions very much.
