The busts are very nice, with a realism that may be examples of a mid century art movement in the Congo that was inspired and exemplified by the work of Muta Mayola.

$24 for the pair-a no brainer ! I think they'd look good, albeit African- in a Mid Century Tiki or Hawaiiana Exotica living room.

 

Thanks Bosko. They definitely have a MCM vibe. Frankly, it was 2-3 hours into the start of the estate sale and I was surprised to find them in the 'library' on a bookshelf.

Truth is, I've never had great success re-selling African carvings, but I thought these showed a degree of sensitivity that elevated them. Who knows? Not me.

 

Sadly most African carvings I encounter are of the 'airport' tourist variety-these have enough of a modernist vibe that IMHO they should sell. Course who knows what today's customers want- aside from Ltd Ed Pokemon Cards of course.
