Here is some of the stuff I've found this week. There is more I will post later.
The first is a little character shaving mug. The guy that makes these is pretty well know (Peter Petrie) and I think the shaving mugs are pretty rare. $1.21 at the thrift.

Next is a Nippon coffee/chocolate pot. True Antique and signed on the Bottom. $4.24

And last is a set of 4 pocket knives (stainless) featuring 4 Native American chiefs. Nice case, I don't think the knives are high quality, but I like the presentation and they have not been used. $5 at a garage sale.

    So whatcha think?
Since the 4th, and the HEAT, garage sales have been sparse. Hopefully this week will pick back up.

I think you did very well. The prices you find on these finds is just amazing.

My grandmother would have been all over the chocolate pot. She LOVED gilded, painted pieces. I'm happy to see you finding stuff. I hit two small thrifts today and got skunked. Tag sales have been few and far between here too. One here, one there, and so much driving time between them that you really only get one chance of finding anything. If you pick the wrong one, everything good is already gone before you get to the second, and there's no use hitting the third.

Yes Ruth-Unless you're mighty early thru the gate,as Dandy Don Meredith used to say-"Turn Out the Lights, the Party's Over!". Then you've gotta wait til Sunday or Monday when you hit the Malls and see what the lucky earlybirds got (and hope they didn't spend the entire weekend researching ?)

That chocolate pot, once listed, will sell quickly (IMHO). It has all the goodies like Roses and Gold and looks like wonderful condition. The shaving mug is adorable and the knives IDK those.

I remember when people would run over people to get that kind of Chocolate Pot

First in the door or stay home is about right. If you're thinking of my local Ill Will, just stay home. They sell damaged items, dollar tree for more than Dollar Tree charged, Target merch that they purchased on a pallet (and is never, ever discounted), and Temu/Shein shop rags. They pretend they're clothing. Anything worth buying gets skimmed off for their online store, unless it's there by mistake.

I probably won't be doing many more estate sales. I can't be there first. Yesterday my number going in the door was 30 and they were letting 30 people in. Even then, the 2 things I was really interested in were gone. One was a Fenton vaseline opal hobnail cake stand. Almost never see those. Just to be sure, I asked the guy giving the sale if it had been sold and he said it was. I didn't feel so bad when he told me it sold for $375, but it was odd that I didn't see anyone carrying it out. The rest of the stuff there didn't interest me and I left empty handed. Fortunately, the location was only 15 minutes from my house.

Probably sold to the first guy in the door, or the first guy they let in three days before the doors opened.

Or to one of their own employees. Which is what I thought at the time The person giving the sale is a great guy and that's a hard job, so I guess there should be some perks. In the past (when I was able to be there at first light) I purchased some great items from him and made good money so I'm not complaining. But in the older days, there was usually still good stuff left even on the 2nd day. Times are tough and everyone is out there scrambling for grocery money.

That happens too. These days you have to be like an old joolie and get there first, otherwise all that's left are scraps.
