Hi Peeps!!! Either DH or his older bros I think had this.....so it has some silver in it, and as I was told you had to go to the bank and have them open it.....and of course, we don't have a key. DH JUST told me they ARE still in business, so maybe we can try them. I've tried the trusty nail file and knife blade, all to no avail!!!! You can see from the bottom some sort of key fits it......anyone have any ideas????? I DO NOT want to damage it!!!!! There ARE Quarters, Dimes, Nickels and Halves in it and I believe they are somewhat old......it also says "BILLS" on the other side with a slot for them, but can't see any in there.....THANKS for any input!!! More of a FUN project!!

I can't WAIT to get in it!!!! We have to wait until Monday to take it to the Bay State Bank FIRST.....that's the easiest!!!! There are Quarters, Nickels, Dimes and Half Dollars in it......they HAVE to go back to his/their childhood....and he's 81.....so I'm dying to see condition and dates of all of them!!!!! Oh, I'll probably be disappointed..........BUT, if the bank doesn't have a 'key' for it, we WILL be trying to make one, you can be sure of THAT!!!!

If the bank doesn't have a key, maybe carry the bank into a locksmith and see what they could do. That may be safer than possibly damaging the mechanism with a homemade effort.

Take a picture of the key to the locksmith, that would give them a starting point to work from.

True, but the two members posted pretty good images, one from the SAME Savings Bank, no less......but making one would be our last try!!!! I'd take THAT image to the locksmith!!! And of course, thanks for the suggestion!!!!!

I used to use a "scribe" the thing you put a pencil into draw circles. I would put a pin in instead of a pencil and opened many a bank with it. I always called it burglary tool.

My husband the locksmith opens these for people all the time. You don't have to break it. Don't take it to a hardware store lock guy unless he's an experienced locksmith.
