Featured Small Bone Box - Origin? Purpose?

This small box has a polished exterior but a rough interior, so I think it is bone. After much effort with a sunshine cloth, the real silver edging appeared from the black. The top has a bird decal that appears oriental in style. The closure is in the shape of a bow, which does not seem to fit the bird - I am going to guess there were many different decals that may have fit the bow better. It is so small (2 3/4 inch long X 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall),
I can't fathom it's purpose. It has no mark. I was intrigued enough to bring it home and ask you all for comments. I have hopes that it might be something interesting, but you know what an optimist I am. :)

Sort of curved like it was roughly rounded out.

    Kiko -
I don't think this is old enough to be a patch box.

I'm thinking 1960s or later. Maybe even yesterday.

It's pretty. A lot of people started collecting those mini boxes back in the 1980s. Many of the little boxes were and still are found in gift stores.

I don't know where your box is from. India? Persia?
    Maybe @Any Jewelry will know.

Chinese phoenix bone and brass trinket box, but it could have been made in India or Nepal.
I agree with cluttered, fairly recent, but pretty. The phoenix is a feminine symbol. No specific purpose, it is what we call in Dutch a 'hebbedingetje', a pretty trinket you just want to have. A nice 'hebbedingetje'.:playful:
