This tazza came with another piece of vaseline glass. It actually looks more amber in most light, but UV shows it to be vaseline. It's light weight and the glass is on the thin side. Rings when plinked and has a hollow stem. Measures 7" high, 7" diameter at the top and 4 3/8" diameter at the bottom. It has a pontil on the base which is sharp. Any ideas? TY!

Stem is very similar to a bunch of different glasses I have from a glass company with the fancy name of "Utility Glass Works"

    Thanks! I'll check that out.

Thanks! Frankly, as to its usefulness, it looks like it doesn't have much of that. Candy, compote, tazza take your pick. It wouldn't hold much candy, compote - it would hold virtually no fruit, and tazza - what are those really? Maybe some flat candy? Like peppermint bark, that would be good!

You’re Welcome, I hesitate to post a well known maker before checking as best I can, so as not to get peoples hopes up. But I got stuck.

Absolutely beautiful, hand made ...it sure looks like the Steuben shape, maybe Steuben missing the label?

I just sent a message to the Collectors Club. I'll let you know if they respond and what they say.

I'd guess the color was from Steuben, Carder period, ca 1920-33. The stem is hollow, the base has a folded edge, all quality earmarks.

Thanks, cherry! By reading further at the web site INH provided, I discovered the color is called Bristol Yellow. The question I asked the Club was whether this is a 6043 or 6270. There was a footnote regarding the height and I think it might be the 6270 but not sure.

Ola, I have had 2 Carder bowls bought at the same time to be a matching set but I noticed one was ever so slightly larger than the other. When I questioned about it, I was told that since most was hand blown it was not unusual to be slightly different.

Also, I would refer to this a tazza, too. My Grandmother kept one, slightly shorter than yours, on the foyer table for ladies coming to call to place their calling cards in.

@patd8643 Since I have the memory of a gnat these days, I think what I read was them saying that there was a mention in a catalog of a 7 incher but no diagram like they had of the others. But they knew it existed so that's a relief. I noticed when I photographed it that there is a "doink" on the underside of the top where it is attached. That would be a very weird place to chip a compote so I guess the factory might have done it. Appears likely anyway.

Me too! I just heard it from DH and my Brother while they were watching a football game. It's when you are trying for a field goal and the football hits the uprights but takes a bad hit and doesn't go through, consequently no score.

So I appropriated the word to describe an annoying chip on glass. For instance, today I got a gorgeous Waterford Lismore DOF with a teeny weeny fleabite on the rim. A doink in other words. Annoying, but not bad enough to throw away or even not to use it.

I heard back from the Steuben Collectors Club and a person named Scott said that there is no way to definitively call this piece a 6043 or a 6270 since there is documentation that a 7" existed in both patterns. I guess it really doesn't matter, you either love it or not, but I'm leaning toward the 6270.
