Featured Cleaning the New Haven 434 Clock.

Makes you wonder where, and how long, a clock has to sit to get this bad

 

Brass is slowly coming back to life:

 

Looks like it lived in a damp shed for years. Or it belonged to Miss Havisham (Great Expectations).
But it is a beauty underneath all that gunk.

 

Love it Tiquer ! I think I like The Haunted Mansion look more than a restored piece. I doubt many buyers will agree with me !
PS- What kind of venue did you find this at ? As they say in the biz-'Fresh Barn Find'.

 

Funny you say that! When I saw it, my first thought was HALLOWEEN DECORATION!!

That's one thing the gorgeous Pacific Northwest lacks-the 12 month a year California-style flea markets !
Gets too dang wet in the Winter, that's why it's so green up here.Man does pickin go dead in Winter.

This clock has me perplexed. The 2 screws that hold the main movement in place are gone, yet the top connector remains. Wondering if someone parted this poor baby out and junked the remainder.

They are also not easy to get to, so David Copperfield must have been the prior owner

 

The movement should come out by removing the bottom set screw after having removed the gong. If you get that far then turn it from the back clockwise and lift it out. The circular frame it’s sitting in should not be removed. It looks like a French movement mercury pendulum clock, does it say made by New Haven on the back plate? if you show a photo of the back of the movement that would be helpful, does it still have a suspension spring?

 

Btw, I’m pretty sure I have a New Haven parts clock if you want it, including an updated non mercury pendulum and the suspension spring.

 

Thanks very much for that offer! I bought mine to flip, so I wouldn't feel right using yours to rebuild it!

 

Update! This is apparently a "Thoreau" model clock.
