My husband says this was his Grandmother's, who came here from Ireland....whether the pitcher came with her he has no clue! Maybe someone wiser HERE might have a better idea???? There are NO markings on it. It is 12" tall, 5-5/8 across the bottom and 3-5/8 across the top. I appreciate any and ALL help!!!

Standard Glaze pottery late 19th - early 20th century. Many of the potteries made pots in Standard Glaze - Peters & Reed, Weller, Roseville, Owens. I don't know who made this one.

Wow, Gila, that looks close although more of a flare on YOUR posted pitcher!!! Like the price tho!!! But hubby says not ever gonna get sold....don't know if he plans on "taking it with him to Above or Below"....whichever direction he's heading..... depends on MY day :vamp:!!!!

Thanks Crowleys too, and WELCOME if I haven't done that already!!!!! Lots of FUN, LEARNING and education here!!!!

I think half the reason I love it Bakers is because, A. it IS pretty, but B. I can't believe no-one else in his large family wanted it!!!! To me, it's a treasure!!!!

Your pitcher appears to have sprigging as part of its surface decoration. That would be the raised grapes and leaves. This type of decoration on this type of pitcher is indicative of Peters and Reed. There is some speculation that Peters and Reed sprigware was actually made by Weller as some shapes are common to both companies.

So, from all of your (crowleys, Gila & dgbjwc, thank you very much!!!!!) input and going and looking about, it looks like if it's Peters and Reed not a lot of value, but if MARKED Weller there's a significant value increase!!! Funny. There were a few references to Peters and Reed with Weller in parentheses, and the 'sprigware' patterns on both are SO similar on both that I would agree, they are probably the same......the value appears to be in the signature......or not!!!! I'm just happy to know more about who made it so when it gets passed on hopefully it doesn't get dropped in the ash can!!!! HATE to have to worry about that kind of thing.....with $$ you don't have to worry.....They'll KEEP IT!!!!!.......with ITEMS......you just never know.....will they want it or not!!!!:bored::bored::bored::oops::oops:

Silly Question...... when I first looked at it I would have called it Majolica. Why would that not be right?

Bdigger.......after running through a huge bunch of pictures, I only came across ONE that even came close....size, shape and colorwise.....so am leaning against Majolica!! BUT, worth checking out, thanks!!:):)

I did the same search with Owens and Roseville and NONE came close at all, so crowleys thoughts seem to be right ON track, thank you very much again!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D
