Looking for information on Goodwill find

I came across this vase today and had to have it. I’m not planning on selling, but I would like to learn more about it, especially the hole in the bottom and what its purpose is.

 

Lamp base? Hole is for electrical cord.

The shape is a double gourd and it does look as if the base was drilled to create a lamp base.

Drilled pre-baking, because there is glaze inside the hole. So it was meant to be a lamp base from the start.

I'm sure it will look very beautiful, it is a striking base, and good quality.
