11" tall. This one went for $700 at a recent auction. On worthpt the most Ive seen is 300 but most in the 200 range. is there something about this one that is special?

Please provide a link to the auction where it sold so we can see how it was described.

The figural decoration would be the first thing that caught my attention. A lot of the comparable Qajar jars I’ve seen are mainly floral, so the combination of the blue foliage and the painted figure may have made this one more desirable.

It also looks like a fairly decorative example overall, and auction prices can jump quickly if the condition, size or provenance is better than the cheaper comparisons.

I wouldn’t assume $790 means there is some hidden rarity, though. Sometimes two bidders simply decide they both want the same piece. I’d be curious to see the auction catalog description and dimensions, since that might explain the premium.

Many of this type of Qajar jars/vases have figures on them, but this is the first time I've seen a running/dancing male figure. Male figures on this type of jar are usually horse riders with falcons, Hajis and other popular Iranian themes.

well that seems true, but the one in question also has some significant damage on the back side. Its not often you see a ceramic go for a good price when theres damage like that. It usually signifies something is very desirable.

Is this perhaps a boy rather than a grown man? It looks to me like he's running.

He is holding something in his left hand. Would be nice to know what it is, it could tell us what he is actually doing.

I thought so too, but looking more closely, the object near his raised hand strikes me as being just another little area of blue color that happens to be near his hand. My first reaction to it was that he could be flying a kite. His mouth is open, suppose that's why he was seen as singing, but maybe just shouting in play?
