This 5 1/8" long "dagger" brooch has a rhodochrosite half-moon at the top and an onyx cylinder to the side. Signed "Sterling SS". I found one with a different color gem online but the seller had no info.
Does anyone recognize the maker? Thanks! SS_Rhodochrosite_onyx_dagger_pin_1.JPG

When it has black inclusions like this it is called rhodonite.

Hi Roaring20s, I saw that first pic but didn't find the one labeled "Navajo". Frankly, I don't think the piece is Native American and I'd doubt very much the black cylinder on mine is coral,it's far too straight and doesn't have any visible pores. Methinks the seller is guessing. But thanks for your research!

    Lovely pin!
Somehow it made me think of a torch rather than a dagger.

Hi @bluumz, I don't think the artist was going for "dagger" but I couldn't think of a precise term that seemed closer to the style. I like your idea! Maybe I'll just stick with measurements and materials when I sell it. Thanks!

It doesn't look like it was by a professional, sloppy soldering and no cleanup of the excess solder.

Chopsticks, funny! I don't see sloppy solder. Where do you see that? Maybe it's my incomplete polishing of tarnish?

The right end of the half tube holding the "coral",bottom bar next to the bezel, probably more that I can't see in the photos.

Oh, okay. Not sure why you think there are more. The black rod is not coral, tests well above glass on a Presdium, coral would not.

  13. So, what did we conclude?

Large American Southwestern modernist sterling silver brooch with rhodonite and a black insert, possibly onyx?
