Featured Glass sterling garnet bowl and chopsticks

Hi everyone! I went to an evening sale tonight and picked this up for $20. Brought it home and tested it. The chopsticks are testing as silver. They have what I assume is garnet inlayed in the tops. Google is giving me nothing! Has anyone seen this before? I couldn’t find any marks on the glass or silver. When and where do y’all think this was made? Thanks!!

It's more like a work of art than tableware. Since it's not terribly expensive, I expect the stones are genuinely garnet.

Yes! I felt like art to me when I first saw it. I told my husband I was going to make ramen noodles for dinner and eat them out of my new bowl. He said absolutely not!

 

I had that thought too. I think if I had this set to eat with, I'd have noodles every day!

 

Is there a small mark on left handle? I know silver chopsticks to be most often Korean made. I think they use them in Japan and a bit in China too though. This piece obv doesn’t look like traditional Asian design. I’m sure there are plenty of modern studio artists doing non traditional work in Asian though.

 

Very beautiful. I agree that it is art. Don't use it, just polish the silver and enjoy its beauty.

It reminds me of glass art by Dutch artist Frank van den Ham, who is often inspired by Asia.

Fun detail is that one of the chopsticks is wood, the other glass.

 

I will polish it later today when I get home from work. Hopefully a mark will be found!

I believe so. It was very hard to scratch it against my testing stone, so it was very hard to tell. I will try to get a good scratch later.

Ha! Just kidding! I will not polish it today. I forgot how much I despise polishing silver. My son has a friend who does musical instrument repairs, and he will polish my silver for me. I will post a pick when he is done polishing it for me. In the meantime I found this today! Anyone recognize it?

The only HW I know is Henryk Winograd, & this is not the sort of silver work he did.

If that's a copyright symbol over there, maybe it's actually MH, despite the orientation of 'sterling'?
