Featured Need Help Wording This

I have no idea what happened to the text of this post, but it was here before the photos.

I see a lot of these reverse intaglio cameos on ebay, with a wide margin in price. This one does not look like crap. Is there any particular words or description I can add to sell this at a fair price? I bought it, my wife doesn't want it.

Just a note: I bought this at the same place my wife bought all her pins at last week. She bought a bunch more. But, the one below I picked out because of how "tacky" it is. $3. It has sold on ebay for $400 and the cheapest is $599 now.

She says she was going to get it. But, it wasn't in the pile she had. Looking at this, how do you not see it's so freaky it has to be something of value.

There are times when I have seen what I thought was outstandingly ugly clothing/jewellery/handbag/shoes & said to myself: Must be designer & expensive to be that hideous.

Even though it is not to my personal taste, I think I would have picked your eclectic brooch & looked it over. It's one of those things that I can appreciate for quality of construction & still be left asking myself why?

The first item is the lady I call Headband Girl. She is probably the single most reproduced cameo/intaglio in the world. As far as I have been able to work it out, she seems to have originated in W. Germany, continued on after the Wall fell, may still be in production for all I know. Have only ever seen her in glass, appearing in pieces by Weiss and Whiting & Davis, as well as in a universe of unbranded output.

This technique is most often called 'reverse carved' although it is of course molded glass. The bail looks like a replacement.

 

Oh! That explains why it seems to have layers.

 

Headband girl doesn't float my boat either. That second one....(swish!bye!) Very Moderne and right down my alley.

 

Do you know anything about the metal(s) with certainty? Please tell me you did not pay a gold price.

 

Methinks yon new member is yet another one of those. There is no way the pendant is crystal, & most certainly neither Essex crystal nor one of its imitators.

The more I read some of these posts carefully, the more I find things that don't quite make sense.

SS did make one good point, sort of. The correct description of an item & the description some potential buyers might use to search for such items are not always the same thing, something to keep in mind when crafting a listing.

 

Looks like I missed something or someone. A little drama. I have been suspicious of the huge numbers of bots and guests on the board possibly causing the delays and inability to reach the board at times. But that's all behind the curtain for me.

When eBay severely limited the number of characters in a Title, I craved more space for just this reason. I wanted to show the correct description along with the colloquial terms. Using sub-titles didn't work well and cost more.

 

Not much of a drama, just another one of these new members we seem to be attracting (or is there a frenzy once just one of them finds you?) by the name of the business Davey gives details for. Less wordy reply than most of them, but full of suggestions for what Snow's pendant might be, what to check for, most of which wasn't actually useful.

Don't know if this suggestion will be useful, but I'm guessing most collectors of something, when searching eBay, ask for listings that use any of the keywords in the description as well as those that use any of them in the title. Probably not as effective as putting them right up top, but you can slip them in there.

Of late I am noticing cameo listing after cameo listing with short descriptions that have suspiciously similar wording that tells me how rare it is, what a great addition to my wardrobe, what a fashion statement. What an AI crock.

 

LOL! Kind of has a ring to it and gives them away. The Tagsale AI that got kicked off yesterday taught me something. When I posted "Who are you?" His response started out "Fair Question". Well, I got a phone call today from caller ID of a medical company so I answered it and it was Rachel representing blah blah blah. So I say, "Are you an AI agent?" and she replies with "Fair Question". I had to bite my tongue not to say "Is that you Tagsale?" But they should not be engaged even to shine them on so I hung up. Does AI have a sense of humor? Does it laugh? Fair questions.

 

The same with most things. Very mundane items become a valuable addition to your collection, etc etc.
