This item weighs about 5.5 lbs. The glass globe (which has a lavender tint that the camera isn't quite picking up) is 3 lbs and the base is 2.5.

The base is 4.5" on all sides at the widest (bottom) square and is about 2.5 inches in height. Here's the interesting part: although the bottom of the base is highly magnetic, the sides and top are diamagnetic, so I'm guessing they are made of lead. It doesn't look or feel like copper but perhaps. As far as silver, don't I wish!

I'm not sure who made it or how to classify it. To me, the tiered base gives off vibes of art deco—yet the sphere looks like American glass. And what are the four holes on the base for if the glass just sits?

Stumped again, folks, and looking for your expertise.

By the way, I posted here in the general forum because I seem to get more responses than when I post in the specific forums.

I forgot to mention that it is not a perfect sphere. The bottom is flattened to keep it stationary.

Guessing here....perhaps the stand went with something else, or there was at one time a metal stand to somehow accent the glass sphere.

Sort of looks like the glass design, but that cradling base doesn't seem suited for a paperweight that isn't entirely round, but has a flat bottom section for sitting it somewhere.

Yes I realize yours has a flattened base, but it still could have had a 'cage' accent surrounding it. Or that base just is married to it an it is not original.

Dude I hope to see all your paperweights over time, as I am always on the look out for something interesting. My impression is that paperweights all have flat bases, as they are intended to hold down paper. I used to have a whole raft of them in my office. Now that I am no longer in an office all day, I have them sitting on my laptop as a laptop pet, in holders, on stands, and sitting by themselves. Kiko

You liked that did you? I sort of stuck it in the middle so a reader had to trip over it.

Base is possibly home-made; the four holes being for the screws used in assembling it?

Well, let's start with this curiosity, which weighs about 9 ounces and is about 2.75" x 2".
