Late 19th C 30 hour pin pallet escapement alarm clock. Very cheap when new, still very modest value

Very cute, but I agree, not worth much. I remember I bought an antique alarm-clock once (wasn't quite as old as this, 1910s-1920s, I think). I rang up a clockmaker to find out how much it'd cost to fix.

The price he quoted was more than I paid to have my pocketwatch serviced, and I thought that was steep! He said it probably wasn't worth it, and I agreed!!

If you want to fix it up as a hobby, you can, but to pay for that clock to be serviced would be prohibitively expensive.

Or stick a battery movement in it, if you just want the look of it. Which is quite nice.

    Hi,
My FIL had an old mantle clock from his father. A local clock repairman came and collected the clock. He ripped the guts out and replaced with a battery movement. My FIL did not know that the repairman replaced the guts. He found out a week later when the clock was not striking the hour or half hour. He called the repairman and wanted to know why it did not need winding or why it was not striking the hours. When the repairman told him he replaced the guts with a cheap battery movement, my FIL almost had a stroke. I told him to wait until I came down to take a look at it. No, he had to have it fixed right away. Now he hates the clock but not as much as he does the repairman. The repairman is NOT a clock repairman he is a retired jeweler.
