Featured Wood face / mask carving - where from?

    A bit on the small side to be an actual mask - 6 inches high. The wood is fairly lightweight and porous.

    Where is Mr. Grumpy Face from? "random crappy mask" is an acceptable answer but hopefully someone recognizes the style. Thanks for having a look!

    Just a wild guess but Mr. Grumpy reminds me of some folks in Germany

    I can only say that there is actually some nice work in that mask....front and back.
    & the hook and ring.....I've not seen before.....but it's not new !!

    That's a fun dour look! That would be the tragedy side of a comedy/tragedy pair of theater masks. First guess would be a Hawaiian carver. Has a tiki or Asian look, maybe both. Guess he scared the happy mask away!

    The wooden mask in that group looks like Maori, of New Zealand.

    I'm with Flowing, it looks European to me.

    Is it an actual mask being only 6"?

    I suppose this very well could be the tragedy half of the comedy/tragedy duo.

    On a closer look, You are right, european masks depict wrinkles, the Maori tattoos.

    Maori masks, like Maori face Moko or tattoos, do follow natural facial features. So I can see how the 'wrinkled' mask looked Maori.
