    Given they're a pair, I'd suspect they're book ends.

Hello group, Amazing Unmarked pair of Spelter Panthers on beveled green Onyx bases. About 9” long and very heavy, the underbody scratches silver (Spelter?). Green felt base, all appear old. I’ve googled Spelter Panthers onyx base but no exact matches. Any clues to artist, manufacturer, age and approximate value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Will

I wonder, there isn’t a surface or end to rest books against. Seem more decorative, thoughts?

They're bookends. An internet image search will bring up dozens of similar. Art Deco.

The panthers themselves are positioned so close to the edge of the onyx, their bodies would probably work to hold the books up.

Oh,ok thanks. I did see similar, singles and pairs, didn’t realize they were bookends with the flat base. I stand corrected!

Those birds are backwards. The beaks would support the books
