    Hi,
Trying to determine where this was made and age. Someone suggested Belgium, no idea if that is correct or not.
    Any information appreciated.
    Thanks for looking.

Those back splats are cool but seems odd they have bullseyes and the wood seems different.
Can you tell if they are carved or not?
Brad will help soon I'm sure. :)

I'm not at home but I think the faces are flat on the back. As for carved - I'm not sure. Do you think they would be cut out with a saw? Sorry, furniture and the construction of it is not something I have knowledge in.

I wondered if they were pressed though it doesn't seem so.
You may not be able to tell if they were machine done or not.

I'll stay out of that one...

The chair has some honest age to it, very cool! Hopefully our furniture experts will take a look and be able help.

It's absolutely MEMORABLE. Put that chair in a special spot or nook and anybody who sees it will remember it. I respect that a lot.

In trying to find others, I've discovered they call these North Wind Chairs.
Part of the fantasy furniture that doesn't fit a recognized style.

I've never heard either of these terms before. Maybe Brad has.

I would put the date somewhere around the 1880s, give or take a few years.

Yes, North wind or green man faces.
It is quite comfortable and fits in well with the rest of my treasures:)

I think circa 1900 and probably European ... Italian? Don't see anything particularly Belgian about this but certainly a possibility. Maybe stained beech. North wind is a descriptor for the face..... Usually has pursed lips as if blowing. Green man is usually depicted within foliage. They often get confused and used interchangeably. These look more theatrical. I get a more Roman/Etruscan vibe from them, hence the possibility of it being Italian in origin.

    North wind....

What's with the bullseye Brad? It seems so out of place and doesn't seem to match.

Can't explain the bullseye. Agree that it is odd. If the hole goes all the way through the center, maybe something attached there. What, I don't know. Maybe a tassel?

    Thanks folks!
The hole doesn't go all the way through the bullseye. I think it is just decoration.
