Kyra, if you find pieces in the US that you may like to buy occasionally, you might look into finding a trans-shipper in the US. There are several on the east coast. Most sellers don't have a problem sending to trans-shippers. You will need a PayPal account until ebay forces everyone into mangled payments.
Maybe @journeymagazine could help with a trans-shipper. There are several near him. There is one in Delaware to avoid.

And BTW, many of us would love to ship internationally but have had poor experiences with shipping, customs and some times buyer in certain countries.

That is perfectly understandable! And that is why I’m not totally against global shipping program:smuggrin:

When something is listed on eBay, if you change the URL extension, example, from .fr to .com or .de (Germany) and change nothing else, the page refreshes and takes you to eBay global site (.com) or the country specific site per the extension that you entered.

My experience so far is that it always does that, and sometimes it helps to see the listing when there are glitches, or your browser's cache may have a cookie that got messed up, corrupted, etc.

There might be an option that sellers/auctioneers can select to list only on specific sites (.fr, for example,) but I am not sure about that. I am under that impression because I have found items listed on ebay.de or ebay.it that don't show on searches on ebay.com, so that might be a feature/option.

My my my, i would chime in here with my ritual taste testing provocation but since the sale is in flux thru a 3rd party (wink) transaction, I'll let it slide, for now.....:p

Speaking of bug jewelry Kyratango,, I found this article at JSTOR about the Victorian trend in real insect jewelry and immediately thought of you. I am just posting the image and a link, since it is a lengthy article. It is a safe and reputable site. https://daily.jstor.org/insect-jewelry-of-the-victorian-era/ insect_jewelry_of_the_victorian_era_1050x700.jpg

Live jewelled beetles still exist... poor things that will end up starving in a drawer once the owner will no long be interested:(

;)[/QUOTE] I often use the taste or or tap-the-teeth techniques when trying to ID a material. It is a very common practice we learn in American archeo field school. I did this in front of a Greek archeologist last fall and she completely freaked out. I guess they have more ancient and lethal microbes over there. Or is this just an American thing?

Maybe worried the acids in saliva would damage a relic?

Yup, it's a contamination from thee to relic thing, rather than an infection worry. Archaeologists care far more about the long gone than the still living.

Sorry no, she tried to give me wet wipes and mouth wash. it was definitely a disease thing. Conservators have been know to use their spit when testing things, it's less acidic than skin oil.

Maybe she was thinking of the Curse of Tuts tomb? That was some sort of bacterial related from the caves, or something?
