Engraved steel pot, anyone know what it is?

Hi

I brought this at a flea market a few days ago as I thought I looked quite interesting. Anybody know what it is?

It's made of steel with sort of a goldy brass coloured plating. Its quite nicely engraved and painted. The seller said it had been in the family as long as she could remember.

Indian brass I think

 

Made for sale to tourists/import/export shops; from India, or the Middle East.
My parents had bunches of things in this style, some marked "made in Persia" dating back to around 1960, in brass or other metals; theirs were likely from what is now Iran.

 

Thanks guys, i'd only ever seen similar things made out of brass not steel, so that's good to know.

 

I don't think this is steel. Does a magnet stick? Looks to be brass with tinned interior.

 

Yep, it's magnetic and also quite heavy. I'm pretty sure it's steel, You can see where the plating has worn away a silver coloured base metal underneath. It's also this colour on the base

It's 10.5cm high and here is a picture of the bottom

 

Thanks-haven't seen one like that, must be cost-cutting since steel would be cheaper than the usual brass look-alike from India/Pakistan.
