What I think: widely reprinted, in the 60s, poster that was beat to hell, singed and decoupaged to a piece of wood.

Thank you very much. It's my first time posting on any forum and I'm liking it already. I've probably got 20,000+ antique items from postage to armoires here on the farm. And I'm all that's left from such a vaste family. So I'm going to try to let go of things for others to enjoy without getting rid of something valuable not knowing it's value. As for the writing at the bottom, some of the words aren't visible but this is what I can make out. Job Printers and engravers... Lliam weent (I assume the first were there is William). .. new donars? For all political functions?

Zoomed into your picture to get a closer look at the details. If this was a original I think the graphics would be much higher quality. These appear to be copied and have lost some of the detail and original crispness.

    Welcome to the forums!

This poster has been reproduced forever. This is a "1940's photo reproduction of a 1860 Republican Party election poster featuring Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson as presidential and vice presidential candidates." in the holdings of the Hoover Institution.

I love this website. Thanks all of you who commented. For educational purposes, what's the characteristics of a original?

Here's another example of a similar decorative plaque from the same era.

well 1st off, that it's not glued and laminated to a chipped piece of wood , making it's value nill.
2nd, that it's printed on period paper stock...& it helps to be an expert to know that !!

At 32 and you're the only one left from a vast family...
Sir...I am very sorry to hear that.....& you have my sympathy !

I can only hope that the 20,000 + items......are not of the same ilk as what you show here....

Don't envy you your task. But you can confidently put this one in the yard sale pile.

I had never seen another paper preserved on a piece of wood before this forum and it was something I had just dug out which gave me the idea of jumping on a forum. It's good I did too, I leaned something new.

Now as far as the next 20,000 items, what are some good outlets for sharing numerous things to people so I can get an idea of what people are looking for.

It might be better to show groups of items in one post and rely on members here to pick some wheat out of the chaff so to speak.

yes, with that many items start with catagories.
Look at the list we have here and think what do I have that fits these , and which are old and possibly unique ....
    it's a place to start.
Do you have collections of similar objects....ie, tools, military, pottery, linens, toys, .......things that can be grouped together??
