I got a bunch of vintage plastic-ware in the other day. I didn't even know there was a following for plastic-ware but hey, I learn something new everyday. Anyways, most of the pieces were easy to identify, plate, pitcher, flour and sugar bins, then there was this. I have no idea what it is suppose to be. It looks like it has a particular purpose. Maybe a jewelry case? It has little holes around the bottom. I am stumped so I once again turn to the all knowing forum here for help. So what is it?

That is one weird thing. I don't think jewelry since it has no compartments or separators in the clear pieces. Does it turn on the base?

The arched holes look like they should have a purpose but I can't think of any that make sense.

When I first saw it I thought it was some kind of "pretty display" for food - like cupcakes or petit fours. But then why have the holes and the clear-sided "container" parts.

It doesn't turn and I thought the same thing but the holes. They have to have a purpose. I just don't know.

Do you think you could be a bird feeder?

I'm wondering if it could be a piece to a punch fountain.

Well, this eBay listing has one similar and they found it being used as a sewing caddy. Does not necessarily mean that this is what it is (I've found MANY misidentified items on eBay) ... but with those holes in the lowest tier like that it does seem that something was meant to pass through them. (but without spindles to keep the spools apart, I envision a tangled rat's nest forming over time).

I could definitely see it being used for this. So far this makes the most sense.

The picture of the underside of yours seems to have an additional set of holes into which the spindles for the thread spools could go. And the picture looking down into it seems to have little bumps in the fabric in the same pattern. Can you take the fabric out or is it glued down?

You're right I haven't tried but it looks like the lining will come out. I will see when I get back to the gallery.
