That's right kids! It's time for the Americana shows/sales in New York City!
Where everybody & anybody who is into americana is located this week.
Unlike last year where there was a BUMPER CROP of early american furniture with multi million dollar private collections of early furniture, this year early furniture is pretty much MIA. :(:(:sorry: It happens, every year can't be a great year for early furniture.
The best sale in my view is Sotheby's Important Americana catalogue linked below
    https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2020/important-americana

    My picks at this sale

I would note the most important piece of Americana this year regardless of collecting category is probably this engraving by Paul Revere.
Only 2 of these are known to exist which =
    It's gonna be a MONSTER NUMBER$$$
    https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auc...a/paul-revere-broadside-account-of-the-bloody

Hand-colored engraving, 1770, the second and final state, printed from the original plate and published by Edes & Gill, Boston, late March, 1770, on laid paper, framed

This is one of only two known impressions of the broadside. The other example, which is the complete sheet, is in the collection of the New York Historical Society.

This depiction of the "Massacre" in Boston by British troops is pure propaganda for sure but hey! it's very rare propaganda! :hilarious: All's fair in love & war!
I would add that John Adams who defended the British soldiers on trial for murder, won the case and all the british troops were acquitted.

So James, is that first piece correct? The top seems at odds with the base to my eye (but I wear glasses:D).

    Hi James,
I love the Pilgrim table. I remember my great grandmother had one very similar sitting on her back porch. A dealer came along and offered her a 100 dollars for hers, this was back in the early 1950s. She refused saying it was a present from an old friend. She really thought the dealer was going to come back and steal the table so she had her husband put it in the attic. Some 20 years later I called on Grandma Evans and asked if I could have the table. She said what table I said the one you put in the attic so the dealer would not steal it. She laughed and said your uncle Bill took the table and mounted his grinder on it. It fell apart a few weeks later since for uncle threw it away. I was heart broken.

Dang, 33 alerts just now, A LOT! There is nothing in this years sales of early american furniture for me, some years it's like that, last year was a GREAT year, we may not see another like that for awhile.
It's just the way it is if you only collect one specific object/ category.

No, it's correct, thumb moulded edge, typical table top for that era.
If you notice the Red Gum table below, same deal, thumb molded edge, just a different wood species.

Yes, it's a KILLER piece of americana, no doubt! I wouldn't be surprised to see it go over a million, is pretty sure there will be strong institutional interest on this one.

Cool, was it Red Gum? To bad what happened to your grandmothers table, it happens though, pieces don't survive for one reason or another.
I have 2 HUGE Gum trees in my front yard, my neighbors HATE those trees because of the spiky balls they have as seeds. They have offered to PAY me to have them cut down & replace with another species, SO SORRY, NOT HAPPENING!:singing:
