African beaded purse?

I am sure I posted this question before and if I really searched I could find it, but maybe one of our experts will be able to answer right away. I'm going to start selling my beaded bags because none of the younger generation wants them and I was told point blank by my daughter a couple of weeks ago that I should deaccession and use the money for my "golden years". Snippy, but to the point. She's right. At my age, I don't need a bunch of stuff packed away that I'll never look at or need any more. Anyway, I'm starting with pieces that came along with ones I really wanted in order to ease myself into the process.

The body is 3" x 2 1/2" and the 'strap' is 15".

 

I don't think it is African. The colors and looped fringe are not typical.

 

South American? It doesn't seem like something that originated in the States. Maybe I'll just list it as a beaded purse and let the buyer figure it out.

I went the other way though....
I started with some of my better stuff.....cuz that's where the money is....
my thinking....by the time you ease yourself into it.....all your best stuff will still be around.....but you may not be !!

 

I think that is a good plan. Sharing the stuff you love with those who will appreciate it takes time. We acquire because we fall in love with something but paring down is a priority in the long run.

 

I don't know about beaded purses, but I was thinking Peru or Ecuador based on the design.

 

I just let go a set of flow blue plates that I loved, but can't use because we rent to college kids in the summer and I'm tired of storing my good stuff so it doesn't get broken. Better to let someone have it that will care for it.

 

I remember a lot of years ago when I had been collecting maybe 2 or 3 years and was i talking to a couple in the queue while waiting to go into a fair, the woman said to me that eventually I would start selling stuff and I said noooooo never......
She just smiled and said....you will.
I still remember that conversation because she was SO right, it's the way to go, get rid of stuff when it doesn't excite you anymore, makes space and free's up some money to ....... buy more stuff

 

I am in the same boat,My daughter has taken everything she wants, and has asked me to sell the rest if I can and in particular the more expensive items,My heart is hurting as I am selling off my Native pots slowly, but I DO PLAN TO KEEP AT LEAST 3.
