    Little charity shop find.
I’ve not seen facets like this on a pendant before. You can probably see but the best I can explain is on one side a triangle with 3 steps up to a point and on the other side is a step up to a plateau.
Is this shape recent or has age?
Any thoughts on the stone - pale yellow at one end and lilac at the other.
I’ll get a photo on a white background when I get home.
    Thankyou :)

Looks like ametrine,it is a step cut stone and and the design has probably been around for many years.

    Off to google :pompous:

    That's it!. Thanks @Hollyblue :)

Ametrine, also known as trystine or by its trade name as bolivianite, is a naturally occurring variety of quartz. It is a mixture of amethyst and citrine with zones of purple and yellow or orange. Almost all commercially available ametrine is mined in Bolivia.

It could be that too M. I've just tested it with Mary Contrary and on thermal conductivity she says if yellow Citrine and if purple Amethyst but is Blue John going to get a similar thermal reading or likely to be different ?. I'll google!
Mary is being sent back for a replacement tomorrow as she is very Contrary.

Just googled and once I avoided the healing crystals websites :nurse: the best advice was to scratch it as BJ is softer than Ametrine or to (quote) 'Hit it with the hammer' to see what shape shards broke off:hilarious:.
    Maybe not.
Wouldn't be anything left after I'd destroyed it!
No useful info about thermal conductivity.

Blue John is fluorite and would test differently.

Not Blue John. That's a far more opaque thing.

Himself made crystal set radios - as did I when I did Physics a long time ago.

My dad is an amateur radio enthusiast and would probably go into great detail about how they work.
His degree is in Chemistry and I sent him a photo of my uranium beads and he’s sent an email back asking all sorts of questions I have no idea of the answers to and if I want to borrow a Geiger counter!

Is there enough space left in your dark cabinet for the Geiger counter?

Oh yes but it opens a whole new slightly alarming possibility of positive results.
Edit- and we won’t mention the slight oddness of why a close family member even has a Geiger counter to lend!
