Wedgwood Handpainted plates

    Was incredibly fortunate to acquire 8 matching plates, all in good condition, with paintings (not transfer prints) of Scotland (eg Loch Katrine, Iona's Nunnery) and the Lake District.

    I think that the impressed Wedgwood and the stamp date this to 1878-1891 (no England either stamped or impressed).

    I've included photos of just one plate, Windemere, the others all have the same descriptive writing in red and the X 371 number.

    I've been unable to trace any other examples, would love to hear if anyone can find out more

    No Fig, no letters impressed, checked all 8 plates. So we are in agreement on date 1878-1891.

    What throws me is why I cant find any other Wedgwood plates like this. They all look 100% genuine to me and not later painted on blanks.

    When I wrote the previous post I didn't look back at yours to realize that you had given the same date range. Sorry for the redundancy!
