Sorry, haven't been on the board for a while! Found the pics of the toby. Yes, this is a cross legged toby. I tend to agree that this maybe from your grandmother and not your great-grandma. This toby was obviously made by a mold and not hand molded. The much older tobys in from the 1700s were hand molded. I've seen this toby before. It's rather crude in the facial features. It's really hard to tell if it has a makers mark. I don't see anything I recognize as a well known toby mark. And it would be difficult to guess where it's from even though it was in England. I'd put this toby between the 1930s - 1950s. It's not old enough to be from the 1800s. It's not worth a lot of money. Since I'm in the US I'll give you a price in dollars and you can convert to pounds. I'd price this around $30‐50. And that's being generous. It's not made out of anything special. Its ceramic. But tobys are collectable and people still buy them.

We are a different breed of collectors. We are selective on what we collect. Not every toby collector collects every toby they find. And we aren't born on every street corner. We are a select group of collectors. But for myself, I love collecting and have been doing it over 40 yrs of my life. And I don't know anyone else who collects them. I think that's what keeps me looking. The uniqueness of looking for something that most people have no idea what they are.
