Featured Two Rings - stones?

The first is gold with a dark, reddish-purple, heart-shaped stone. At first, I thought amethyst, but it seems to have a reddish tint, so I don't know. I think it may be older but it does have a copyright symbol (I think), so I'm not sure. It was marked 14K but I think it really says 10K or maybe 18K. This shows you how little I know about jewelry, so I am asking for comments.

The second was marked sterling at the resale shop, but I couldn't get a good photo of the stamp. Believe me I tried. The stone is a lilac color.

    I appreciate any thoughts.

The heart could well be an amethyst; they come that color. It looks like a 10k mark. The other is straight up costume.

Thanks. I didn't know that about amethyst. I thought costume too, but they thought Sterling. I don't know why.

First definitely looks like amethyst. Second stone's play of color is consistent with the way lab grown color change sapphire can look under certain lighting. It's not an expensive stone, so a possibility. Do you have a UV light to try on it?

Yes. What should I look for?

Oh believe me, if it is, you'll know. I'll let it be a surprise. I'm not sure it is, mind you, but the UV will confirm or refute. :)

I am spending a lot of time in my closet with the lights out and the door closed, since I met you all. My cats are getting upset, and scratching on the door. This is what happened.

Sorry, it's not. If it had been, the colors would have changed to deep red & green. It's a pretty spectacular effect. It's not iolite. Think we'll have to settle for glass.

Well, you did. Still a striking ring. I mean striking, you could punch someone with it.

Give them a shiner. :D I did learn some boxing moves. My uppercut was pretty good.

The second one seems to have blue pleochroism, in this photo it is seen in the lower half. So it could be violet Tanzanite.

Wow. That would be sensational. I would be so happy because when I went to Tanzania, I bought a piece of Tanzanite not jewelry.
