And yes I know it's a spoon lol. Basically I bought a joblot of items of eBay, been slowly working my through the spoons that were included but I can't seem to identify this one anywhere ?? This closest thing I can find is a roman spoon with a proper goose neck, bit my one is still different. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree, I'm new to discovering new things

You sure are right. The shape of this spoon with that crook neck certainly is in the shape of a cochlearium, "a small Roman spoon."
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochlearium

According to the following wiki... page on types of spoons, cochlear is a liturgy spoon "used in the Eastern Orthodox Church in serving the consecrated wine, sometimes with a particle of the sacramental bread."
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_types_of_spoons#Other_objects
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoon_(liturgy)

Is there any markings on the back of either the bowl or handle? This shape spoon still may by used in Eastern Orthodox Churches (????); however, doubt the church spoon would have a griffin. Like the others I suspect this is a reproduction of a Roman spoon, but before dumping it, I would have it appraised by someone in the know. It just isn't beat up enough for me to believe it is an authentic Roman spoon.

There are 3 Byzantine spoons in this shape in the Benaki Museum, Athens.

Here is replica of a spoon in "Roman style."

Every time we have a coronation in Britain people make anointing spoons in various designs, some accurate reproductions, some a bit fanciful. I suspect this spoon is of that ilk, and if it is not hallmarked as silver it would go in the odd stuff not really worth anything bin.

I had to click on the pictures to bring them up.

Thank you for the reply, this has got me interested now lol. That only possible marks are in the pics, the handle is quite heavily worn. Could the first pic be the remains of a hallmark ?? Could the 2nd pic be the remains of any writing ?? Probably not to be fair but that's all I can find lol

Cheryl, to the rescue against! Good find, the exact identical spoon down to the panter in the bowl. Seems it is pewter.

"This replica, is made from pewter and is a purely ornamental example of an original spoon.
The whole thing is about 10 cm long and the bowl of the spoon is about the size of
our modern teaspoon. The handle comes to a point and would have been used to
dig out such 'delicacies' as cockles or edible snails from their shells.
Being made of pewter, the handle is quite delicate and can bend easily, so this should
not be given as a toy, nor should you actually try to use it as a spoon for today.
The bowl of the spoon is decorated with a Panther and would probably have been used
at a feast in praise of the Roman God, Bacchus..."
