Featured Can you help me with this caller card holder?

Hi everyone! I have what I believe to be a caller card holder from around 1818, but I'm not 100% sure if it is just that or if it's from that era.

I've included photos of the item, and I'm wanting to know the country of origin, material it's made from (I think it's silver), language the inscription is in, what era it's from and if any has any rough price evaluations?

Just judging by the materials, workmanship and construction, I would say it's a relatively modern fantasy item for the tourist trade.

 

Looks like it might be Greek, the danglers are reproductio/fantasy Greek coins and the language is all Greek to me.

I also suspect it may be a holder for a lady's slim prayer book or an aide memoire.

It may date from the date scratched on it, 1818, and this predates calling/visting cards.

 

I highly doubt it's for calling cards. I've seen dozens of card-cases made in silver and ivory and it looks nothing like that. Is it actually silver? or...

 

We have no idea sorry! I'm just trying to help my girlfriend's parents out and the information I've included is what they believe to be true, it could be plated copper

 

Greek prayer/scripture box, with a depiction of St. George slaying the dragon - the chain should be longer for hanging from the neck. Whether early 19th century or not would be better determined by someone with expertise in icons and the like...
