Anyone know what this is and what it was used for?

    IMG_4341.JPG I purchased this today and plan to use it as a decor piece. I'm curious as to what it is. I'm thinking it was used to hold water or maybe wine? There was a cork in one of the holes and it got pushed inside.

    Cool canteen...
    I had a quick Google (I know nothing about wood canteens) and only saw one with a flat bottom, sooooo... maybe yours was for a specialized purpose? And, the one with a flat bottom was SAID to be civil war era...
