Does anyone have experience with estate sale companies in Seattle? Good, bad, who to avoid? Thanks!

As a buyer or as a seller?

In Everett there is a charity known as The Assistance League. They use their store income to buy new clothes for children.
They do estate sales too but not sure how far south they go.

As a seller. A friend has a house chock full of antiques that need to be sold.

If they are real antiques...an auction house for the more expensive items may be your first place to go.
No one here likes going to an estate sale where the prices are at the retail level...even for solid items.

Thanks. I think they are pretty decided on an estate sale but I will mention it. Are there any companies you are familiar with that are especially good or especially bad?

My experience here is only as a "buyer" and most of what I have run into has been prices too high for me, but if they advertise well and do a good job of organizing and staging the items, stuff still seems to move. Almost all start on Friday, with a "discount day" on Saturday. If they go until Sunday, there may be an even greater discount then. Is the location in the city itself or outside? I'll put together a list and send you a PM (since posts in this part of our site are picked up by Google et al.) I have no idea what any of their terms and conditions are.

Thanks everyone. Bakers, they are not in the city. I think they are on an island, can't remember the name. Thanks very much for any help.

Does the name Vashon Island ring a bell?

No, I don't think that is it.

Hopefully, it's Mercer - the only one you can get to without paying to get there - very conveniently connected to the outside world by I-90 both east and west. If the house is on another island, getting there and back (both sale workers and potential buyers) from Seattle itself would really eat in to the expense aspects of such a transaction. I won't even go to Vashon for a sale (my closest ferry dock and it's only a 20 minute ride, but the round trip fare including a vehicle makes doing so unappealing.)

In the 23+ years I've been here I've never been to Vashon....
