Is there a Degenhart Glass collector's site?

Or any site that shows examples of the colors she made, with their catalog names?

I have this little owl, but I can't decide what to call the color. It's really close to a powder / sky / Tiffany blue, but I'm sure the last one is trademarked.

    Thanks!

Chuck Florence in his Degenhart book shows photos of 189 owls in different named colors. 31 of those colors are blue. I can not begin to figure out which is which. He made no attempt to repeat colors but used what was available so they all vary some. These were all on display at the Deganhart Museum. It is an interesting book probably one of Florence better one. Worth picking up if you can find it.

The Museum of American Glass in West Virginia has the cabinet from the Degenhart Museum with all the colored owls in it. Perhaps a note to them would bring forth the answer.

That sounds like visual overload with the colors.

Thanks everyone! I knew Degenhart had a lot of different colors, but 31 different blues? And some of them even have people's names instead of a descriptor - I've seen mentions Chad's Blue and Martha Blue, too.

Thanks for the info about the book, George. I'll have to keep an eye out for that one. I have several other Florence books, and they all have really good info.

I found the WVMAG site, and I might try to see if they have an idea - thanks.

Thanks for looking. I ran into the same trouble the last time I tried to find a match. Mine has small areas that appear to have some slight opalescence. Other companies usually name those colors differently than the regular versions of the same, so I thought I'd ask.

I think I'll just go with Light Blue. LOL

This is Tom at the Museum of American Glass in WV. We have the complete collection of Degenhart Owls on display in our Museum (the same ones that used to be in the Degenhart Museum in Cambridge). I'll see if I can match your photograph, though as pointed out, many of these blues are so similar to one another that it may be impossible to pin it down for sure. When the Degenhart Museum closed we also received their backstock of the Florence books, so they can be purchased new from us at $14.00 for non-members/10.00 for members.

Hi Tom - Thanks for posting and offering to check. I was just on the WVMAG site this morning, intending to send a message, but I got distracted looking around at all the beautiful exhibits you have. I must have spent 15 minutes looking at the Blenko Man photo, trying to guess which pieces make up his different parts. And I love all the different colored cactus pieces around his chair.

Here are a couple of other photos of my owl, in case these could help determine the correct blue.

I took a look at our owls yesterday and I've narrowed yours down to three colors: Wonder Blue, Opal Milk Blue, or Chad's Little Boy Blue. They are all very close to one another, but if I had to pick the one that looks most like yours, I'd go with Chad's Little Boy Blue.

Thanks so much for taking the time to compare my owl with the collection. I appreciate your help.

The color of your owl is Milk Blue. It is one of Elizabeth's most common colors. My family used to work for the Degenhart Glass factory in Cambridge, Ohio.

I have a 135 piece Degenhart Glass collection I'd like to sell. Is there a collector site I could post this on?
