So I acquired these from my grandmother but haven't been able to get any sense of their age. If I had to guess I'd say 1950's or earlier but again I'm clueless. The art on them is from Peterson or so I noted in my file. Can anyone tell me anything about these regarding their age, metal used (tin or aluminum?) or any other valuable information? They do have a little orange oxidation so there has to be some iron in there. 20200408_193418_rsz.jpg 20200408_193432_rsz.jpg 20200408_193441_rsz.jpg 20200408_193455_rsz.jpg They measure 6 5/8" in length and 4 3/4" width. Thanks so much!

I think 1950s would be the earliest.
These were used in the 1960s and later. The two small ones would be individual cocktail/appetizer trays. The large one the serving tray.

National Wildlife Federation had a mail order catalog that I was ordering out of in the late 1980s. Don't know when they first started doing that. Don't believe they are still around as I was looking for them not too long ago.

Sorry, I misunderstood and thought there were 3 trays.

    Maybe giving size would help

Mini tole trays. Late 1950s/early 1960s.

Thank you for the replies! I did put the size in there but the info got split from the main text when I inserted photos. They measure 6 5/8" in length and 4 3/4" width. I'm going to have to look up "tole trays" now. :)

    Sorry, I didn't see that.
Yes, that would make them little appetizer trays.
    Came in sets of four.

These really aren't toleware. Toleware is hand painted. These are "stenciled". May be the wrong term.

I'm aware they're not toleware but... that's what they're commonly called.

Is it my imagination or is the "art work" in the center on paper applied to the metal? The second one shown has some damage at the edges of the art that makes me think that.

Not your imagination at all. The artwork is applied/glued into the tray.

Interesting. I have a couple of sets of my mothers but they are transfer applied to the tray. I've never seen any that have paper. You'd have to be very careful what you used them for to keep from ruining them. I wonder if there was a coating applied at one time.
